AI & School Response

I have been toying with the idea for a while now, of trying to together a visual that represents schools' responses to #ai. However, I have found that when I have actually attempted this, it is very difficult as:

  1. I am constantly ill at ease with whether I am representing what should happen/have happened or what is actually happening/has actually happened

  2. The rapidly evolving nature of AI, the disruptive effects on #education, #schools and responses to these, create an extremely fluid landscape that is difficult to represent accurately and without context

  3. Nations, states, education authorities, exam and assessment boards widely differ in their responses to AI and these have a major influence as do other political factors in a schools' response

However, I have put tried to put down some major points to reinforce various things I have said on podcasts, webinars and comments on others' posts during the first half of this year. See what you think:

Short Term

  • ASSESSMENT AUDIT/REDESIGN -Audit existing assessments to identify tasks that can easily be plagiarised using AI. Remove/edit/replace tasks

  • PROFESSIONAL LEARNING - Establish foundation knowledge, skills and confidence in teaching staff. Experiment, collaborate and share knowledge within school and wider educational communities

  • ADMINISTRATIVE IMPROVEMENTS -

  • CONSULTANCY & DEVELOPMENT - Consult with students and teachers on appropriate and safe use. Communicate with community. Develop policies/strategies to deal with suspected plagiarism

Medium Term

  • POLICIES & STRATEGIES - Publish and refine policies/strategies to deal with suspected plagiarism

  • EXTERNAL INFLUENCES - Incorporate exam board/awarding body policies/guidelines

  • FURTHER PROFESSIONAL LEARNING - Share knowledge, use cases and lessons learned. Refine practices and deepen understanding of technology and it’s applications

  • TECHNOLOGY TEACHING – Provide education on how the technology works, ethical issues, tools available, effective and safe use

  • RESPONSIBLE USE – Provide education on responsible use of the technology by students (school-wide and discipline specific)

  • PEDAGOGY RE-EVALUATION - Consider changes to pedagogy and practice to immerse students in #aieducation
